Glossary

Trading words in plain language

Use these meanings while reading a report. They describe terms, not promises about a trade.

Entry
The price where an order aims to start a trade.
Stop-loss (SL)
A level where the trade is planned to close if price moves against it. The actual fill may differ.
Take-profit (target, TP)
The price where the trade aims to take profit.
Risk to reward (R:R)
The planned loss compared with the possible gain, risk first. R:R 1 : 2 means the possible gain is twice the planned loss.
R multiple
A result counted in units of the planned risk: +2R gained twice the money risked, −1R lost exactly the money risked.
Win rate
The share of closed trades that ended in profit.
Break-even
A trade that closed with neither a profit nor a loss.
Confidence

Pending order
An instruction waiting for price to reach a chosen level.
Limit and stop orders
A limit order (Buy Limit, Sell Limit) waits for a better price than now; a stop order (Buy Stop, Sell Stop) waits for price to move further in the trade’s direction.
Lot (lot)
A unit of order size. You do not choose it: the bot works it out on every trade from your risk per trade and the stop-loss distance.
Pip
A small unit of price movement in many currency pairs.
Spread
The difference between the buy and sell quotes.
Slippage
A fill at a different price from the one requested, common in fast markets and around news.
